While in South Korea, “KakaoTalk” reigns as the nation’s messenger app of choice, overseas, many opt for “Line.” Line, too, was developed by a Korean company, but due to the dominance of KakaoTalk within Korea, Line initially struggled to secure a user base and even faced the possibility of being discontinued. However, a surge in international users, particularly in Japan and Southeast Asian countries, led to a remarkable turnaround.
Ultimately, Line now boasts a user base far larger than that of KakaoTalk. However, due to KakaoTalk’s strong presence in Korea, Line’s prominence is not as widely recognized domestically.
