Pyoseon Five-Day Market, in Jeju (2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd, 27th)

In Jeju Island, there is a traditional market known as the “oil market.” Unlike daily markets, this market operates on specific dates. While these markets are not as commonly seen due to urbanization, they used to be a familiar sight in cities in the past.

In Pyoseon, Jeju Island, you can still find the Pyoseon Five-Day Market, which operates on the 2nd and 7th of each month, repeating every five days (2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd, and 27th).

“Pyoseon Five-Day Market”

As we were contemplating where to go next after visiting Pyoseon Beach, we stumbled upon information about the Five-Day Market. Luckily, it was the 17th, a market day, so we decided to pay it a visit.

The Pyoseon Five-Day Market consists of three buildings: one selling household items and agricultural products, another specializing in seafood, and a small restaurant offering dishes like sundae gukbap and meat noodles.

“We Found Affordable Hallabong and Cheonhyehyang at the Market”

After parking at the market, we took a stroll. Since it’s a smaller market due to its five-day cycle, it didn’t take long to explore. Among the offerings, what caught our eye was the Jeju mandarins.

Hallabong and Cheonhyehyang mandarins are great snacks to enjoy while staying in Jeju, and if you can’t finish them during your trip, you can take them home. So, we decided to purchase some more.

We were able to buy them at a much lower price compared to what we bought at Seogwipo Olle Market. If you ever need to buy mandarins like Hallabong or Cheonhyehyang nearby, it’s a good place to keep in mind. The quality is comparable to what you’d find at Seogwipo Olle Market, but the prices are even more budget-friendly, allowing you to savor plenty of Jeju mandarins during your trip.

“Reasonably Priced Seafood Selections”

Since the market is located near Pyoseon Harbor, you can get quality seafood at reasonable prices. However, they mainly sell live seafood for you to cook, which may be a bit impractical for enjoying during your travels. That’s why we didn’t purchase fish at the market this time.

If you’re staying at a pension or residence where you can cook, and you’re visiting with your family, you might consider buying affordable ingredients at the market to make a delicious meal.

This market opens only on the 2nd, 7th, 12th, 17th, 22nd, and 27th of every month. If your travel dates align with one of these market days, it’s worth remembering to pay a visit. It’s a hidden gem in Jeju Island.
