Osaka Doi Station to Kyoto Fushimi Inari Station: Keihan Railway

After spending two nights in Osaka, I decided to stay in Kyoto from the third day onwards. Since my accommodation, the “Urban Hotel Kyoto,” was near Fushimi Inari Shrine, it made more sense to move to Fushimi Inari Station rather than going to Kyoto Station.

Originally, I planned to explore more of Osaka using the JR Pass before heading to Kyoto. However, due to Typhoon Jasi, I had to alter my plans. With all railways scheduled to halt from 12:00 PM, I had to make the move to Kyoto in the morning.

“The day everything changed due to the typhoon”

From public transportation to major tourist attractions, everything was affected by the news of the approaching typhoon. Although I had a JR Pass, there wasn’t much I could do beyond taking the subway. It was disappointing, but given the typhoon situation, it was unavoidable.

The best option left was to utilize the JR Pass as much as possible to get to Kyoto. Despite taking longer than anticipated, arriving early in Kyoto wouldn’t change the fact that there was nothing much to do due to the typhoon.

“Maximizing the JR Pass to move from Osaka to Kyoto”

Taking it slow, I examined various options and began checking which station offered the most economical route to Kyoto Fushimi Inari Station.

After considering multiple options, I concluded that using the JR Pass to reach Taishibashi-Imaichi Station and then walking about 5 minutes to Doi Station, where I could catch the Keihan train to Fushimi Inari Station, was the most cost-effective.

“From Taishibashi-Imaichi Station to Doi Station, then to Fushimi Inari Station”

Taishibashi-Imaichi Station was quite on the outskirts of Osaka. I used the JR Pass to reach this station and then walked about 5 minutes to Doi Station. From Doi Station, I boarded the Keihan train.

The train fare was 390 yen, and the journey took about an hour. The Keihan line has various types of trains, and if you time it right, you can board express or limited express trains for the same price. While I opted for a regular train on this trip from Osaka to Kyoto, I was able to take a limited express train on the return journey from Kyoto to Osaka.

“In summary, Osaka to Kyoto Railway Route: Keihan Railway”

Thanks to the typhoon, I found myself planning a route to Kyoto that I hadn’t considered before. If it weren’t for the typhoon, I would have never ventured to such a place, making this unplanned journey quite an experience.
