Daegu Hoe Restaurant in Pohang Jukdo Market

Pohang Jukdo Market is a traditional market representing Pohang City. “Jukdo” in the name refers to an island where bamboo used to grow abundantly, meaning “bamboo island.” Pohang is a city created by landfilling between islands, so you can find many place names ending in “island” in the area.

“Pohang Jukdo Market: 24-Hour Crab and Sashimi Street”

Pohang Jukdo Market is quite large and takes the form of a traditional market, with various shops established. However, for outsiders, it’s well known as a place to enjoy “seafood,” and once you venture inside Jukdo Market, you can find various sashimi restaurants.

“You can find ‘Daegu Hoe Restaurant’ in Jukdo Market.”

Since we visited Jukdo Market, and wanted to try some sashimi and crab, we looked around before deciding to visit “Daegu Hoe Restaurant.” In truth, I had planned to visit after looking around several other places, but the person enthusiastically explaining the menu at the entrance led us to enter right away.

Since it was my first time at Jukdo Market, I ordered the “Special Set” without any fuss. Based on a set for two people, there’s a “Hong Crab, Snow Crab, Abalone, Shrimp, Lobster Special.” Prices start from 70,000 KRW.

“A hearty spread”

As is typical of seafood restaurants, you can find various dishes here. A generous spread is laid out, and even though we ordered a set for two, the table was set so generously that it could easily serve three.

You can enjoy various dishes like sashimi, crab, and mulhoe (spicy raw fish soup). Of course, I think sashimi tastes best when eaten by the seaside.

“Finishing with Crab Ramen”

As you eat the dishes served, more food keeps coming out. After enjoying the sashimi and crab, you can finish with either “spicy soup” or “crab ramen.” Since you can easily find spicy soup at other places, we chose “crab ramen” this time.

While regular ramen is tasty enough, boiling it together with crab adds an even deeper flavor to the broth.

When traveling in Pohang, Jukdo Market is a must-visit place.

Especially, experiencing sashimi by the seaside is a different experience in terms of freshness. Even if it’s a bit pricier, I highly recommend trying it at least once.
