Cho Myeong Wha “Have Your Campus”

There are many different universities in the world. In Korea alone, there are hundreds of universities. If you look at Seoul, the capital of Korea, you can find dozens of schools. If you expand the scope to the provinces and regions, you’ll find hundreds of university campuses.

At one point, I had a thought. I thought about visiting all the university campuses in Korea, but there are so many of them that it would be quite overwhelming to visit just the ones in Seoul and Gyeonggi.

“Have your campus.”

“Have Your Own Campus” is a book written by the pseudonymous campus commentator Choi Myeong-wha (B-listed Travel) that can quench this thirst. Even if you can’t visit the campus in person, you can at least experience the “campus” indirectly through the book.

The book doesn’t cover every university in the country, but it does cover the campuses of major universities. The author of the book said that he initially planned to visit all the major universities in Korea. However, since there are so many university campuses in Korea, he changed his plan to visit even 10% of them. Of course, if she were to visit every campus on her own, she would be able to visit them all, but she decided that it would be pointless to just look at the campuses, so she prioritized schools with unique features.

“Books that contain information about each university campus”

The book isn’t just a collection of photos of university campuses. In order to include enough information about each university, the author tried to get in touch with the ambassadors of each school and conduct interviews to get a living picture of the “school”.

Of course, since there are so many different university campuses in the book, it’s hard to go into detail about every single one, but you can still get a good idea of what to expect.

“Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and the South”

The book divides university campuses into regions. However, it’s not the way we know them. Starting with the Seoul area, the schools are divided into four regions: Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Namdo.

Starting with Seoul National University, the Seoul region includes most of the major universities, such as Yonsei University, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, and Seoul Metropolitan University, but oddly, “Sogang University” and “Ewha Womans University” are not listed.

“Special Collection of Women’s Colleges”

The book also includes information about “women’s colleges,” which were once considered off-limits. There are a total of six women’s universities in the Seoul area, including Ewha Womans University, which is the most recognized among women’s universities.

The list of universities introduced in the book is as follows.

“Special Departments at Each University”

The book also introduces special majors that can be found at each university. Some of the majors are promising, while others have a long history.

Of course, it’s not a book about each university’s majors, so it doesn’t have a lot of detailed information.

“What if I could tour the campus before applying?”

If you can visit the campus before you apply to a school, it can be helpful. Of course, it might not help much in terms of practicalities, but it might help in terms of “motivation”.

In the past, most people didn’t have the opportunity to visit a campus before applying to a university because they couldn’t afford it, but nowadays, we can say that we have more money than in the past, so if you can afford to visit a campus before applying to a university, I think it would be a good idea.

I went to high school in a rural area, so I didn’t have the opportunity to visit a university in Seoul beforehand. I also remember visiting the campus for the first time on the day of the exam. Considering that when you take a test in a familiar place, you feel more comfortable and are more likely to achieve good results, I think it would be a good idea to visit the campus before applying to a university.
