Today at Apple at Jamsil: Drawing a Space Explorer Snoopy Style

At the Apple Store, there is an event called “Today at Apple.” It’s a series of small, free sessions offered by Apple, covering topics like how to use Apple devices and creating something using specific applications.

When you visit an Apple Store, you’ll notice designated spaces where these sessions take place. The flagship store in Myeongdong, in particular, hosts sessions on a larger scale.

“Apple Store Jamsil: Today at Apple”

Compared to the Myeongdong store, the Jamsil branch operates on a smaller scale, which can be less intimidating for participants. It appears that each session accommodates a maximum of 5-6 attendees.

Unlike the bustling atmosphere in Myeongdong, where sessions can be quite lively, the Jamsil store conducts sessions in a more subdued manner, noticeable mainly in the area where the session is held.

“Drawing a Space Explorer Snoopy Style”

The session I attended was titled “Drawing a Space Explorer Snoopy Style.” It involved using the application “Procreate” to create a drawing and then turning that drawing into a GIF. Procreate is a widely used program among those who draw on the iPad. It’s a paid application known for its high quality.

Personally, I own an iPad but haven’t yet ventured into serious drawing with it. I haven’t even installed the app, let alone used it. So, I thought this session would serve as a good introduction to the application.

“Decorating Characters from Snoopy Comics”

During the session, we lightly colored and added expressions to characters from the Snoopy comics using the app “Procreate.” It provided an opportunity to familiarize ourselves with basic functions like using layers, adjusting pen settings, and coloring.

Towards the end, we were able to apply animation effects to two pictures that were similar but drawn with different styles. Seeing this functionality, I couldn’t help but think that with adept use, one could even create animations using this application. (Of course, it would require significant time and effort…)

While I currently use my iPad for simple internet searches and writing drafts using note-taking apps, limited to basic applications like “Numbers,” “Pages,” and “Keynote,” this experience showed me that the combination of an iPad and Apple Pencil opens up even more possibilities, including drawing.

Of course, I need to focus more on writing drafts at the moment. However, when I have a bit more free time in the future, I’d like to challenge myself with drawing.

“Today at Apple: Free Sessions with Provided Experience Devices”

When you participate in “Today at Apple,” experience devices are provided as a standard. I had the chance to experience it with an iPad Pro and the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. I currently use an iPad M1 Air version, but the Pro version does indeed feel more responsive, with smoother screen movements.

“Today at Apple” sessions are offered for free, making them accessible without any financial burden. Participating is simple: you can reserve a session in advance through the Apple Store website or application and then attend.
