Osaka Tennoji: Municipal Art Museum

Adjacent to the “Tennoji Zoo” in the Osaka Tennoji area, the Osaka Municipal Art Museum stands proudly. Opened in 1936, this museum preserves important cultural assets, boasting a collection of around 8,000 artworks from Japan and China.

“Continuation from Tennoji Zoo to the Municipal Art Museum”

The Osaka Municipal Art Museum is located right next to the Tennoji Zoo. Thanks to this proximity, it’s easy to plan a visit to the Tennoji Zoo and then seamlessly move on to the Municipal Art Museum.

The main entrance of the Tennoji Zoo is on the west side, and the rear entrance is on the east side. Exiting through the east-side rear gate leads directly to the Municipal Art Museum.

“Free Admission with the Osaka Amazing Pass”

Visiting the Osaka Municipal Art Museum typically requires an entrance fee. However, if you have the Osaka Amazing Pass, admission is free.

Keep in mind that with the pass, you can only access the permanent exhibition on the second floor. The second-floor permanent exhibition showcases mainly Buddhist-related crafts and folk paintings from Japan and China. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed inside the museum.

“Louvre Exhibition on the First Floor”

During my visit, there was a special exhibition on the first floor titled “Louvre.” Unfortunately, access to special exhibitions is not covered by the Osaka Amazing Pass, so I had to pass on this one.

The entrance fee for the special exhibition was quite substantial, requiring 1,600 yen per adult. Without the pass, the permanent exhibition also comes with an entrance fee, which is 300 yen per adult.
