Bic Camera Namba Store – Electronics and Appliances Superstore

In Japan, various electronics and appliances superstores can be found, akin to electronic megastores like “Hi-Mart” in South Korea. One such establishment with a similar concept is the “Bic Camera” store.

Found throughout Japan, it’s natural to come across Bic Camera in major cities like Osaka. Especially in the Namba area, renowned as a representative shopping district in Osaka, you can easily locate the “Bic Camera” store.

“From Camera Sales to a Diverse Electronics Superstore – Bic Camera’s Transformation”

As the name suggests, Bic Camera originally started as a camera-selling superstore. However, as the business grew and expanded, it transformed into a superstore handling not only cameras but various other products.

My personal first visit to Bic Camera was in 2019 during a trip to Tokyo, stumbling upon their branch in Yurakucho. The store was much larger and more diverse than anticipated, filled with intriguing products. I vividly remember spending more time there than expected.

“Bic Camera Namba Store”

The Bic Camera Namba Store had a similar layout and scale to the one I visited in Tokyo. Occupying a building of about 10 floors, it was filled with a wide array of products. Accessibility-wise, it was quite convenient, located approximately 5-10 minutes on foot from Namba Station.

On this particular day, it was the third day since the release of the iPhone 15 in Japan. The store was bustling with people promoting the new iPhone 15 throughout the premises. However, unlike the Apple Store, it didn’t seem to attract as much attention. While the Apple Store was crowded with people eager to see the actual iPhone 15, Bic Camera didn’t experience the same level of popularity. Policemen were deployed in and around the Apple Store due to the overwhelming crowd, but Bic Camera didn’t witness such extremes.

“Exploring a Variety of Electronic Products at Bic Camera”

Bic Camera offers a diverse range of electronic products. One notable advantage is that, unlike electronic megastores in South Korea where staff often approach customers, at Bic Camera, employees generally don’t initiate conversations, allowing customers to browse comfortably. Although South Korea has seen the emergence of stores like Electro Mart, providing a variety of electronic products under one roof, Bic Camera has a significantly larger scale, making it an excellent place for exploring diverse electronic products.

Of course, besides electronics, there are other general products. There’s a store on the top floor selling “big-sized clothing,” and another selling everyday household items. Despite its name being “Bic Camera,” it has evolved into a store that sells not only camera products but also various electronic and lifestyle items.

Given its considerable size, wandering around, exploring various products, could make time fly by swiftly.
