On July 27, 1999, Starbucks landed in South Korea with its first store in front of Ewha Womans University. Initially, there were controversies due to coffee being pricier than a meal, but now Starbucks has firmly established itself in South Korea. It has also become a global company, following in the footsteps of McDonald’s, creating a new global index alongside the Big Mac Index.
Particularly, within a 1km radius of Gwanghwamun Square, it boasts the highest number of Starbucks stores, even more than in New York, showcasing an impressive density.
Thanks to this, finding a Starbucks around Seoul City Hall, Gwanghwamun, and Euljiro area is not a difficult task. Perhaps due to the many office buildings in the area, Starbucks has established its presence all around.
