Osaka Shinsaibashi District Department Store “Daimaru”

The Shinsaibashi Shopping Street, extending north from Dotonbori, a main tourist attraction in Osaka, is home to an arcade of shops. This area is known as the “Shinsaibashi Shopping Street,” a covered 600-meter-long shopping street where various stores are densely packed. With a roof overhead, this area allows for shopping regardless of the weather.

“Daimaru Shinsaibashi: Osaka’s Shinsaibashi District Department Store”

At the heart of this shopping street is Daimaru Department Store. Daimaru is a department store with a history of over 300 years. Comprising a main building and a south building, the architecture, designed by American architect William Merrell Vories, showcases Neo-Gothic style.

After extensive renovations, the newly transformed main building gained attention with the addition of over 370 new brands. Notably, the popular spots include the grocery section on the basement floors 1 and 2, the Pokémon Center & Café on the 9th floor, and the Jump Shop, along with a restaurant district on the 10th floor. It’s advantageous that it is interconnected with the Parco department store from the 2nd to the 10th floor, allowing free movement between them.

“A Department Store with a Variety of Stores”

Daimaru Department Store, being a department store, features a variety of densely packed stores. However, on the 9th floor, you can find stores with a unique atmosphere not commonly seen in South Korean department stores. These include the previously mentioned Pokémon Center and Jump Shop. Additionally, the Canadian card game company “MINT” also has a presence, creating a somewhat different atmosphere compared to typical department stores.

Especially on the interconnected 5th floor of Parco Department Store, you’ll find places like “Don Guri Kyowakoku,” a Ghibli souvenir shop, “Capcom,” and the “Godzilla Store.” It’s a great place to explore alongside these attractions.
