Microsoft Hires Mustafa Suleyman, Co-founder of DeepMind

BBC News confirms that Microsoft has recruited Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind, through recent reports.

Suleyman, a former co-founder of DeepMind, the company behind the artificial intelligence “AlphaGo” which famously competed against Lee Sedol in the game of Go, established DeepMind in 2010. Subsequently, DeepMind was acquired by Google in 2014.

Following his tenure at Google, Suleyman departed in 2022 to co-found the startup “Inferentia AI.”

“Suleyman to Lead AI Division at Microsoft”

Suleyman is set to transition to Microsoft, where he will oversee the “AI division.” Satya Nadella, the current CEO of Microsoft, expressed admiration, stating, “I have known Mustafa for several years now. As a co-founder of DeepMind and Inferentia AI, he has been a bold visionary, product builder, and team builder who I deeply respect.”

“Strengthening Microsoft’s Position in the AI Market?”

Microsoft’s acquisition of Suleyman holds significant implications. Already investing in OpenAI and leading in the AI field with innovations like Chat GPT, Microsoft aims to solidify its presence.

With successful advancements in AI development through OpenAI, Microsoft has integrated AI into its web browser Edge, giving rise to Cortana, and subsequently embedding AI into its Office suite, establishing leadership in the AI sector.

This achievement reflects the vision outlined by Satya Nadella upon assuming the CEO role in 2014, focusing on three key areas: artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and quantum computing.

Over time, Microsoft has emerged victorious, particularly in cloud computing and AI, among the areas of focus. Should the undisclosed progress in quantum computing yield results, Microsoft could firmly secure its position as the leader in market capitalization.

“Microsoft Reclaims Top Spot from Apple with AI Success”

Driven by success in the AI field, Microsoft has reclaimed its position from Apple, which held the top spot in market capitalization for a time.

Until recently, the two companies closely contested the top two spots, but as Apple faced antitrust lawsuits and lagged behind in AI, its market capitalization noticeably declined, allowing Microsoft to widen the gap.

Apple now faces a threat to its position from NVIDIA, which monopolizes the essential GPUs needed for AI.

“How Will AI Shape Our Future?”

Entering the post-pandemic era, artificial intelligence (AI) has become the hottest topic. Big tech companies that do not engage with AI are no longer receiving attention. Even Apple, which held the top spot in market capitalization for a while, has transitioned from a growth stock to a value stock due to lagging behind in AI.

Looking ahead, everyone is talking about AI. There is a mix of excitement and concern about the changes AI will bring. It’s a curious time to ponder how AI advancements will shape the future world.
