Hong Kong – Macau: Methods of Border Crossing

Both Hong Kong and Macau have returned to China, but due to the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, they are treated as separate entities. As a result, when traveling between Hong Kong, Macau, and China, one must go through separate departure and arrival checks as if traveling between different countries.

While Hong Kong was formerly under British rule, Macau was under Portuguese rule. Although both were returned to China in 1999, they are currently configured as one country with three governments, maintaining their independent governance for 50 years.
