Next to Gangneung Jungang Market, you’ll find Wolhwa Street. This is a downtown park created along a disused railway line, with the poignant love story of Muwolryang and Yeonhwabuin, which is the motif for Chunhyangjeon, as its main theme.
In the past, it used to be a railway where trains ran, but now you can find a neatly arranged street in its place.
“Gangneung Wolhwa Station Waiting Room, Wolhwa Gift Shop”
The waiting room that used to serve as a train station is no longer used for its original purpose. Instead, this space has been transformed into a gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs. The space, named “Wolhwa Gift Shop,” sells a variety of souvenirs.
“A Place to Purchase Souvenirs”
True to its name, Wolhwa Gift Shop offers unique products. You can mainly find character goods, such as items featuring Disney characters.
“Regret about the Lack of Souvenirs Commemorating Gangneung Travel”
Although it’s a souvenir shop, there were very few souvenirs related to Gangneung, which left me feeling a bit disappointed. Even in the “Wolhwa Gift Shop,” another souvenir shop you can find on Wolhwa Street, I couldn’t find many souvenirs related to Gangneung. It was a bit disappointing that even in the converted waiting room souvenir shop, I couldn’t find souvenirs that truly commemorated my Gangneung trip.
If they add souvenirs that truly commemorate a trip to Gangneung, it could not only provide travelers to Gangneung with lasting memories but also help revitalize the local economy. It could be a win-win situation.
