Gangneung Central Market is famous for its various food offerings. Not only can you easily enjoy a variety of side dishes, but you can also have a hearty meal.

“The Alley of Head Meat Soup in Gangneung Jungang Market”

As you enter the heart of Gangneung Jungang Market, you’ll find a collection of restaurants where you can have a satisfying meal. This is where restaurants selling ‘head meat soup’ are clustered.

Among the places known for head meat soup in the central market, ‘Gwangdeok Restaurant’ is the oldest and most well-known. However, during this visit, we had our meal at ‘Imgye Restaurant,’ located next to Gwangdeok.

“Imgye Restaurant: Head Meat Soup”

You can enjoy a bowl of head meat soup for 8,000 KRW, and head meat beef soup for 10,000 KRW. They also serve dishes like chicken rice soup, blood sausage rice soup, pork rice soup, pork intestine soup, head meat boiled pork, blood sausage with pork intestine, and more, with prices as follows:

  • Head meat boiled rice soup: 8,000 KRW
  • Chicken rice soup: 8,000 KRW
  • Blood sausage rice soup: 7,000 KRW
  • Special blood sausage rice soup: 8,000 KRW
  • Pork rice soup: 7,000 KRW
  • Special pork rice soup: 8,000 KRW
  • Head meat beef soup: 10,000 KRW
  • Chicken beef soup: 10,000 KRW
  • Pork intestine soup: 9,000 KRW
  • Head meat boiled pork (small): 25,000 KRW
  • Head meat boiled pork (large): 30,000 KRW
  • Blood sausage with pork intestine (small): 15,000 KRW
  • Blood sausage with pork intestine (large): 20,000 KRW

“Head Meat Beef Soup: 10,000 KRW”

During this visit, I ordered the head meat beef soup because it was said to contain more meat and be more abundant compared to the rice soup. Although the price of head meat beef soup was 10,000 KRW, the portion was generous, and there was a substantial amount of meat, providing a satisfying meal.

Head meat beef soup is usually known for having a slightly rich taste, but the one I tasted here was almost devoid of that richness. The seasoning was well-balanced, and it didn’t feel heavy, allowing for an even more enjoyable dining experience.

However, since it’s a restaurant you can find in the market, the atmosphere is truly reflective of the market ambience. Visiting here for a meal during the trip actually made me feel like I had traveled back in time, so it was a very satisfying experience.
