“The White Hotel & Resort” in Pyeongchang

For my recent 2-day trip to Gangneung, I chose accommodation in Pyeongchang rather than in Gangneung itself. Since it was peak vacation season in August, most beachside hotels in Gangneung were fully booked, and the available options were a bit distant or pricey.

While staying at a hotel with a view of the beach in Gangneung would have been ideal, I opted for a quality hotel a bit further away for this trip.

“The White Hotel in Pyeongchang”

The White Hotel in Pyeongchang is located near the Phoenix Park. It was built to house foreign journalists during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, so the building is relatively new and constructed in a clean and practical design.

“Previously Stayed by U.S. State Department Scholars”

The White Hotel in Pyeongchang was where a group of U.S. State Department scholars, including myself, stayed for a 2-day graduation trip. The students stayed in twin-bed rooms, while the accompanying instructor stayed in a double-bed room, as there were no single rooms available.

The hotel was quite spacious, even by the standards of hotels in Gangwon Province. It was one of the largest I had stayed in, and it was well-maintained.

As the hotel was located in Pyeongchang, we could enjoy the mountainous views of Gangwon Province through our room windows. It felt like we were offered views as precious as those of the sea.

“A Convenience Store on the Basement Floor”

Both the rooms and the common facilities were spacious and of good quality. The hotel lobby was also well-maintained and clean.

On the basement floor, there was a convenience store open 24 hours. Interestingly, during late or early hours, it operated on a self-checkout system.

“Regrettable Lack of Breakfast Service”

While I found the hotel’s ambiance and overall value quite satisfactory, one minor downside was the absence of breakfast service. It seemed that they used to offer breakfast, but due to the impact of COVID-19, they were no longer providing it.

Even with the absence of breakfast, it’s still a great place to spend leisurely time while enjoying the scenic views of Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province. I would consider it one of the best-value hotels in the area.
