Seoul Daehangno Hanok Cafe “Samwon Tea House”

The area around Hyehwa Station on Seoul Subway Line 4 is commonly known as Daehangno. While Seoul National University has since moved to below Gwanaksan Mountain, in the past, the campus was located in the vicinity of Hyehwa Station. Even the area that now includes Maronnier Park was once part of the Seoul National University campus. As a result, despite the university moving everything except the College of Medicine to Gwanaksan Mountain, the area is still referred to as Daehangno.

Daehangno is also considered a mecca for theater. It’s a place where you can find various small theaters, making it a prominent stage for theater actors. This has naturally led to the development of a commercial area bustling with couples out to watch these performances.

Thanks to this, you can find a variety of restaurants and cafes in the vicinity. Next to a restaurant called “Doenjang Arts” that sits at the center of Daehangno Sonamugil (Pine Tree Street), you can find a small cafe housed in a hanok (traditional Korean house).

“Seoul Daehangno Hanok Cafe, Samwon Tea House”

The name of the hanok cafe is “Samwon Tea House.” It’s a unique space with a name that’s not “Samwon-saek” (Three Primary Colors) but “Samwon Tea House.” It’s a cafe that preserves the hanok interior, allowing you to experience the serene atmosphere characteristic of traditional Korean houses.

On pleasant days, you can spend time in the outdoor yard area.

“Former Location of Jeon Kwang-soo’s Coffee Shop”

This place used to be the location of “Jeon Kwang-soo’s Coffee Shop.” While Jeon Kwang-soo’s coffee shop may have disappeared, they retained the interior that was used before.

“Menu at Samwon Tea House”

At Samwon Tea House, you can explore a variety of beverages, including coffee. The most affordable espresso is priced at 4,000 KRW per cup, while an Americano costs 4,500 KRW. This puts it in a similar price range to what you might commonly find at Starbucks.

They also have signature menu items like “Samwon Tea Latte” and “Caramel Milk.” It might be nice to try these unique signature items that you can only find here.

As a hanok cafe that you can find in Daehangno, it’s especially nice to visit with close friends or with your significant other. It’s a cafe where you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere characteristic of traditional Korean houses.
