Sculpture at Euljiro 1-ga Station Exit 2: ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ (Photo)

When you come out of Exit 2 of Euljiro 1-ga Station on Seoul Subway Line 2, you will find a sculpture in the shape of balloons soaring into the sky. This public sculpture, titled “Beautiful Dreamer,” can be found in front of KEB Hana Bank. Its English name is “Beautiful Dreamer.”

“Sculpture by Artist Chae Mi-ji”

This piece is a 2017 sculpture by Chae Mi-ji, known as a magician of visual arts. It depicts a barefooted girl holding onto a balloon under a bunch of 88 balloons in various colors, preparing to take flight into the sky.

The sculpture is made of stainless steel, utilizing hydraulic pressure to create the balloon shapes. Steel is connected inside each balloon, and the balloons are welded together, ensuring structural safety.

The artist mentioned, “Everyone’s wishes and dreams are likely to be different,” and expressed these individual dreams with various colors. She also stated, “I hope that viewers can unfold their own joyful imaginations while looking at this piece.”

This public sculpture can still be found in front of Exit 2 of Euljiro 1-ga Subway Station, occupying a space where many people pass by.
