For the final 6 nights and 7 days of my journey in the Kansai region of Japan, I chose a hotel in Kobe as my last accommodation. Located in the Motomachi area, it was a 4-star hotel called “Kobe Plaza Hotel West.” Since it was the last night of my trip, and considering the accumulated fatigue, I opted for a hotel rather than a guesthouse.
Although it was a 4-star hotel, the price was quite reasonable. The cost for one room was around 70,000 yen, but due to the exchange rate, I could stay more affordably.
“Located in Kobe Motomachi Shopping Street”
Kobe Plaza Hotel West is situated in the Motomachi shopping district. It is one station away from Sannomiya Station, considered the center of the Kobe area. The hotel is positioned at the heart of an arcade shopping street with a 140-year tradition, serving as the origin of Japan’s arcade shopping districts.
Being located in a covered shopping street, it offers the advantage of weather-independent access. Additionally, its central location within the shopping district provides convenient access to various shopping opportunities nearby.
“Hotel Reservation through Agoda”
I made hotel reservations for this trip using the hotel booking app Agoda. The reservation for Kobe Plaza Hotel was also done through Agoda, and payment was settled on-site. Payment could be made using a machine, either in yen or by card. As it was the last accommodation of the trip, and I had more yen left than expected, I chose to pay in yen instead of using my card. The cost was approximately 7,500 yen, which was around 70,000 won in Korean won.
“Clean but Quite Compact Hotel”
The hotel was overall well-maintained and conveniently located near the subway station. However, one notable downside was the small size of the rooms. While it’s common to find relatively compact rooms in Japanese hotels, this hotel’s rooms seemed narrower compared to others.
It reminded me of a hotel I stayed in while in Hong Kong, perhaps even smaller. Since I was staying alone, it wasn’t a significant issue, but for two people sharing the room, it might feel a bit cramped.
Nevertheless, the hotel had all the necessary amenities. Shampoo, soap, and other essentials were provided in the bathroom, and Wi-Fi was accessible in the rooms. The Wi-Fi password could be found by turning on the TV, which was a unique feature.
Despite its small size, Kobe Plaza Hotel West, as a 4-star hotel, offered a clean and well-maintained environment. It could be considered a cost-effective choice for spending the final night of this journey.
