The Hwacheon Healing Center is located in Sanae-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province. It was established on a 29,984-square-meter site in Sanae-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, with a government investment of around 700 million KRW in 2014. The center consists of six buildings, including a food research institute, meditation experience education facility, and low-temperature refrigerators.
“From Completion to 7 Years of Neglect: Hwacheon Healing Center”
After its completion in 2014, the Hwacheon Healing Center remained neglected for seven years. While the buildings were constructed, the lack of content led to years of neglect for the project. However, in 2021, they decided that they could no longer let it go unnoticed. They selected an outsourcing company and began implementing a recovery policy.

“Youth Chef Training Program 2021-2022”
The Hwacheon Healing Center started a new project utilizing private professional personnel. The first project they initiated was a youth chef training program. The education covered Korean and Japanese cuisine, as well as bakery and cafe chef training, with about 30 participants.
In 2022, they continued to operate the local chef training program, recruiting students and nurturing local experts. They also added courses in Italian, fusion, and bakery, further fostering local chefs in the Hwacheon area.
“Exploring Various New Projects at Hwacheon Healing Center”
In order to shed its reputation as a neglected project, the Hwacheon Healing Center seems to be finally making significant strides. It is evolving into a space for researching and implementing various projects and programs, from training local chefs to promoting local community coexistence.
At times, it is also utilized as a space for listening to the concerns and grievances of local residents and devising solutions.
Moving forward, they aim to continue revitalizing the local economy through various projects and programs centered around cooking and food. They hope to transform the center into a space where anyone visiting can find healing and rejuvenation.
