Haeundae, Seaside Observation Train ‘Sky Capsule’

In Busan, the Sky Capsule is one of the services operated at the “Haeundae Blue Line Park”. The Sky Capsule is a transportation vehicle that operates on tracks above the MiPo and Cheongsapo sections of Haeundae Beach, distinct from the seaside train. Originally scheduled to open in 2020, it was completed on February 4, 2021.

“Haeundae Blue Line Park: Haeundae Sky Capsule”

The Sky Capsule route runs from “MiPo” to “Cheongsapo,” with only two stops, unlike the seaside train. It is a station format with only boarding and disembarking points. In reality, it’s somewhat ambiguous to consider it strictly a means of transportation. Firstly, it operates very slowly at a speed of 5 km/h, making it challenging to use as a mode of transportation. It is better suited for tourism purposes or as a date course due to its relatively high price.

“Haeundae Sky Capsule Route”

As mentioned earlier, the Sky Capsule route runs from “MiPo” to “Cheongsapo.” You can travel from MiPo to Cheongsapo or from Cheongsapo to MiPo.

The distance isn’t very far, but due to the slow speed, you can leisurely enjoy the view of Haeundae’s open sea while moving. The capsule can accommodate up to four people, and it has a table in the middle, making it a great place to enjoy a cup of tea, take in the scenery, and have a conversation. Due to its slow speed, it takes about 30 minutes to travel from Cheongsapo to MiPo.

“Fare Information”

The fare details are as follows. Residents of Haeundae-gu or citizens of Busan receive a slight discount. The amounts below are for regular citizens, and you can find detailed prices on the respective website.

  • One-way 1-2 passengers: KRW 30,000
  • One-way for 3 passengers: KRW 39,000
  • One-way for 4 passengers: KRW 44,000
  • Round-trip 1-2 passengers: KRW 55,000
  • Round-trip for 3 passengers: KRW 69,000
  • Round-trip for 4 passengers: KRW 77,000

“Haeundae Blue Line Park: Seaside Train”

Similar to this service, there is the “Seaside Train”. It follows the same course as the Sky Capsule but operates as a tram on the surface.

This concept involves using the former. Donghae Southern Line’s closed section for public development and utilizing it for tourism purposes. Both the Sky Capsule and the Seaside Train stop at MiPo Station and Cheongsapo Station, so it’s important to carefully observe which one you’re boarding. The Seaside Train is relatively more affordable, and similarly, residents of Haeundae-gu and citizens of Busan receive discounts. Here are the prices for regular individuals:

“Seaside Train Fare”

  • Single-use: KRW 7,000
  • Two rides: KRW 10,000
  • Unlimited use: KRW 13,000

The Sky Capsule offers a comfortable way to enjoy the Busan sea view. In particular, the capsule allows passengers to spend quality time without disturbance from others, making it an attractive feature. Additionally, the ability to comfortably view the Busan sea in the capsule, regardless of the weather, is another advantage. This is especially popular among couples and families, making it one of Busan’s popular date courses.
