Gwanghwamun Cafe “Starbucks Gwanghwamun Branch”

On July 27, 1999, Starbucks landed in South Korea with its first branch in front of Ewha Womans University. In the early days, there was controversy over the expensive coffee compared to the cost of a meal. However, now Starbucks has firmly established its presence in South Korea.

Especially within a 1km radius of Gwanghwamun Intersection, it boasts the highest density of Starbucks stores, surpassing even New York in the number of Starbucks locations you can find.

“Nearest Starbucks to Gwanghwamun Square”

In the Gwanghwamun Square area, you can find several Starbucks stores. Among them, the closest one is “Starbucks Gwanghwamun Branch.” What sets this place apart from others is that it operates as a “walk-through” store.

Given the nature of the Gwanghwamun area, which is frequented by office workers, it seems that this service is provided for people to take out coffee and enjoy it in their offices.

“A Three-story Starbucks”

Starbucks Gwanghwamun Branch is housed in a standalone building dedicated to Starbucks. The building spans three floors. On the first floor, you can find the counter, while seating is available on the second and third floors. Additionally, if you go up one more floor, there is a rooftop area where you can spend time outdoors when the weather is nice.

In particular, when you go up to the rooftop, you can overlook Gwanghwamun Square. You can also admire the side view of the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, which is located in Gwanghwamun Square.

“Not as Spacious as it Seems…”

From the outside, the store may not appear very spacious. However, once you step inside, it’s not as narrow as you might think. With large windows on the east and west sides, you can feel a sense of openness.

Especially in the bustling commercial district of Gwanghwamun Square, where people tend to gather, it’s easy to find this cafe. Keep in mind that it’s always crowded with many people, regardless of the time.
