In the Gumi Hardware Market, there’s a well-known local restaurant that’s praised for its good value. It’s called ‘Pungwon Sikdang’ and it’s located in the basement restaurant area of the Gumi Hardware Market building. You have to enter the underground shopping area, and finding the entrance can be a bit tricky, making it somewhat challenging to locate the restaurant.
“Gumi’s Budget-Friendly Pungwon Sikdang”
The reason ‘Pungwon Sikdang’ has earned the nickname of being a budget-friendly restaurant is simple. It’s because you can enjoy delicious food at a reasonable price. It gives off the feeling of being able to have an affordable meal at a restaurant you might find near a university campus.
The price range includes Jeyuk Bokkeum (Spicy Stir-Fried Pork) for 7,500 won, Nakji Bokkeum (Spicy Stir-Fried Octopus) for 8,000 won, Ojingeo Bokkeum (Spicy Stir-Fried Squid) for 7,500 won, and Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly, 160g) for 8,000 won.
If you order one of the main dishes for two or more people, they provide either Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew) or Doenjang Jjigae (Soybean Paste Stew) as a complimentary service.
“A Restaurant Where You Can Enjoy Tasty Food at a Reasonable Price”
On the day of our visit, we chose ‘Nakji Bokkeum’ and ‘Doenjang Jjigae’. The ‘Nakji Bokkeum’ was seasoned just right, making it tempting to have another serving of rice. Since there were two of us, we finished four bowls of rice, indicating that it was a very tasty restaurant.
However, because it’s located in the underground restaurant area, it can be challenging to find the entrance when coming from outside. Even within the underground shopping area, finding the restaurant can be a bit of a struggle. It’s a place that only locals are well acquainted with.
