Seopjikoji, situated on the eastern coast of Jeju, is a place renowned for its coastal scenery with Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak as the backdrop. The natural landscape harmonizing with the sea makes it one of the must-see attractions of a Jeju trip.

In the name Seopjikoji, “Seopji” means a place where many scholars (才士) were produced, and “koji” is a Jeju dialect referring to a “promontory” jutting out from the land into the sea. With a background in history and science, one can appreciate Seopjikoji even more richly.

The youngest son of the East Sea Dragon King, who fell in love with a heavenly maiden, was unable to fulfill the marriage due to a lack of dedication for 100 days. Overwhelmed by sorrow, he waited and waited for the heavenly maiden to descend, but he eventually turned into a stone in that very spot. It is said that due to the heartfelt yearning of the Dragon King’s son, who couldn’t fulfill his love, a legend has been passed down that promising love and marriage in front of the dolharubang rocks will bring forth outstanding offspring.
“The Glass House of Seopjikoji”
Walking along the Seopjikoji trail, you’ll come across a white lighthouse. Beyond the lighthouse, you’ll find the Glass House.
The Glass House is an architecture designed by the renowned Japanese architect, Tadao Ando. It operates as both a cafe and a restaurant, and its glass structure provides an open and airy atmosphere. It’s a place where you can spend time enjoying the view of the sea in front of Jeju.
“The Circular Swing Harmonizing with Nature”
You can also find a circular swing at Seopjikoji. It looks like a piece of art, but it’s actually designed to be used. Thanks to this, you can see travelers at this spot taking photos while swinging.

It doesn’t take too long to explore Seopjikoji, so taking a walk here isn’t too burdensome. While there are some gentle slopes, most of the paths are easy to navigate.
You can also take the time to contemplate while enjoying the natural scenery of Jeju Island. Especially, at the Glass House in Seopjikoji, where you can appreciate Jeju’s nature while idly passing the time.
“Parking Fee Applies, but No Separate Admission Fee.”
There is a parking fee at Seopjikoji, but there is no separate admission fee. The parking fee is 1,000 KRW for a regular car, but compact cars or electric cars can receive a discounted fee.
Interestingly, you can actually enter this place without using the parking lot. If you enter from the coastal road near the Yuin Art Museum, you’ll see vehicles parked along the road. This road also connects to Seopjikoji, allowing access without going through the parking lot.
As a place where you can appreciate the beauty of Jeju Island, it’s a must-visit attraction when exploring the Seongsan area of Jeju Island.
