Enjoying Abundant Seafood Delights at Seongsan, Jeju: ‘Mackerel Ssambap’

After exploring Seopjikoji in the Seongsan area of Jeju, it was time for lunch. Since this was a solo trip to Jeju, there were many times when meal times were a bit uncertain. There were also times when I went to eat, only to find out that the restaurant didn’t accommodate solo diners.

I looked for a place in the Sangshin area where I could have a meal alone. The first restaurant I visited happened to be closed on that particular day, so I had to change my plans. That’s when I stumbled upon a place called ‘Mackerel Ssambap,’ which seemed to be quite well-known.

“The restaurant where ‘1 Night 2 Days’ was filmed”

The Mackerel Ssambap restaurant was also a location where ‘1 Night 2 Days’ was filmed. Actually, I didn’t know this until I arrived, but when I parked, I could see it written prominently on the sign.

In the episode of ‘1 Night 2 Days’ where they took a boat from Jangheung to Seongsan Port and had a random draw for breakfast, this restaurant was the one.

“Mackerel Ssambap: 15,000 KRW per serving”

Mackerel Ssambap was priced at 15,000 KRW per serving, and I was a bit worried about ordering since I was dining alone. However, they took my order very casually, so I was able to enjoy my meal without any issues.

Once I placed my order, a generous spread was laid out in front of me. The portions were huge. In particular, the main dish of Mackerel Kimchi Jjim (braised mackerel with kimchi) came in a very large portion. Despite considering myself a hearty eater, there was almost too much for me to finish alone.

The plump pieces of mackerel were exceptional, especially when wrapped in the lettuce. The other side dishes were also quite good. The soy-marinated crab, served as a side dish, took a back seat to the braised mackerel and was relatively less appealing. Thanks to this, I ordered an extra bowl of rice and was able to finish off a truly satisfying meal.

In the end, I couldn’t finish all the mackerel and had to leave some behind. Once again, I realized that if you find the right restaurant in Jeju, you can enjoy a hearty meal every time.

If you’re looking for Mackerel Ssambap in the Seongsan area of Jeju, this is a great place to visit. It’s a spot where you can enjoy a generous and reasonably priced meal.
