Chungju Service Area on Central Inland Highway

While traveling from Pohang back to Seoul via the highway, we stopped at the “Chungju Service Area” for lunch. Thanks to the program ‘전지적 참견시점 (A Place in the Sun),’ it’s now easy to search for information on “highway eateries,” and Chungju Service Area is known for its “Apple Pork Cutlet.” So, we decided to stop for a meal on our way.

Since we were heading back up from Pohang to Seoul, the service area we visited was in the “Yangpyeong direction.” The famous dish at Chungju Service Area is the “Apple Pork Cutlet.”

However, personally, I’m not a big fan of pork cutlets, so I ordered a beef rice bowl for myself. A friend who was traveling with me ordered the “Apple Pork Cutlet,” so I had a chance to taste it.

“Distinct Apple Flavor in the Apple Pork Cutlet”

The Apple Pork Cutlet was certainly different from other pork cutlets. Given that Chungju is known for its apples, it’s natural that they would come up with an “apple” pork cutlet. There was a subtle “apple” flavor in the cutlet, which gave it a unique taste.

The meat was also thick and substantial, and even though I’m not a big fan of pork cutlets, I found it delicious. The beef rice bowl we ordered together was also very tasty.

At Chungju Service Area, they have provisions for you to take extra rice with you, which was a nice touch. Thanks to this, we were able to enjoy a special dish that you wouldn’t find in other places and have a hearty meal with the extra rice.
