After exploring Tokyo’s Ebisu Garden Place, lunchtime had passed, prompting a search for nearby dining options. That’s when I came across “Kimukatsu Main Branch,” known for its unique offering of a “25-layered pork cutlet.” Checking its location, I found it conveniently situated not far from Ebisu Garden Place, prompting a leisurely walk towards my destination.
“Kimukatsu in Ebisu, Home of the 25-Layered Pork Cutlet”
Kimukatsu is a Japanese restaurant specializing in tonkatsu (pork cutlet). However, it stands out by offering a rather unique version—25 layers of pork, deep-fried to perfection.
Ordering the Kimukatsu set menu cost around ¥2,000, approximately ₩20,000, providing a satisfying and delicious meal.
“Compact but Inviting: Kimukatsu Main Branch”
While Kimukatsu Main Branch may not be expansive, especially considering the generally compact size of many Japanese restaurants, it exudes a welcoming atmosphere.
Upon entering, English menus were provided, making the ordering process straightforward. Opting for the Kimukatsu set, it included the 25-layered pork cutlet, rice, miso soup, lettuce, and pickles. Additionally, there were seven choices for the seasoning, and I chose “black pepper.”
“Neat and Tidy Culinary Delights”
Tasting the 25-layered pork cutlet revealed a difference from the regular tonkatsu. The texture was remarkably tender, enhancing the dining experience. Enjoying the flavors at a leisurely pace, the meal felt comfortable even when dining alone. In Japan, solo diners are common, and the restaurant accommodates them with designated seating.
“Celebrity Visit: Choo Sung-hoon”
At the entrance, autographs and pictures of celebrities who visited adorned the walls. Notably, there was a photo and signature of Choo Sung-hoon, adding a pleasant surprise to the dining experience. Recognizing a familiar face, even if through television, brought a sense of delight.
