Yongsan used to be famous for its electronics market in the past. While electronic products are still commonly sought after in Yongsan, with the rise of online shopping, its prominence has somewhat diminished compared to earlier times.
Simultaneously, Yongsan used to have a somewhat negative image. People working in the Yongsan electronics market were often referred to as “Yongpali,” which stemmed from the fact that there were quite a few fraudulent dealings with customers in the market in the past.
The image of Yongsan wasn’t particularly favorable in the past, but with the redevelopment of Yongsan Station and the introduction of IPark Mall, the image of the Yongsan area has brightened considerably compared to before.
“Seoul Yongsan Station Integrated Shopping Mall, IPark Mall”
IPark Mall in Yongsan is a shopping mall operated by HDC Group. It’s a complex facility that brings together shopping, lifestyle amenities, and stores in one place, with a total floor area of 240,110 square meters, larger than the 119,000 square meters of COEX.
It consists of three underground floors and nine above-ground floors, and houses establishments like CGV, Youngpoong Bookstore, E-Mart, and Shinsegae IPark Duty-Free Shop.
“The Garden at the Center of IPark Mall, an Outdoor Garden”
At the heart of IPark Mall, you can find an outdoor garden named “The Garden.” This garden serves as the focal point, surrounded by the buildings of IPark Mall.
The outdoor garden enclosed by the buildings creates a unique atmosphere, particularly with its wide, terraced layout that imparts a sense of openness.
On weekdays, it’s usually quite peaceful, but especially on sunny weekends, it becomes a bustling place with people enjoying the weather outdoors. “The Garden,” the outdoor garden, extends from the 4th floor to the 7th floor.
It’s a great place in the Yongsan Station area to spend some leisurely time, providing a nice spot to take a break while shopping at the mall.
