Hanyang University is a four-year comprehensive private university located in Seoul. Its main campus, Seoul Campus, is situated in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, while its branch campus, ERICA Campus, is located in Sangnok-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The university’s symbol is a lion, its flower is the forsythia, and its bird is the dove. The emblematic color is blue. Established in 1939 as Dong-A Engineering Institute by Kim Yeon-jun, it changed its name to Gunkook Technical College after the Liberation in 1945. In 1947, it founded the Hanyang Foundation and reorganized into Hanyang Night Industrial College, later renamed Hanyang College of Engineering in 1948.
In 1959, it transformed into a comprehensive university, adopting its current name. In 1979, it gained approval to establish a branch in Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do, and now operates two campuses.
“The Only University in Seoul Where You Can Find a Subway Station Inside the Campus”
Hanyang University, well-known for being located on Seoul Subway Line 2, is a prominent university. It is often mentioned that one must take Line 2 during high school, given that many major universities are accessible via this line, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Ewha Womans University, Sogang University, Hongik University, Hanyang University, and Konkuk University. Considering transfers to other universities reachable by transferring from Line 2, you can include various universities like Sungkyunkwan University.
Among them, Hanyang University stands out, particularly for having its own subway station, Hanyang University Station, inside the campus, making it highly accessible.
“Hanyang University Campus Starting from Hanyang University Station”
Hanyang University campus begins with Line 2 Hanyang University Station. Exiting through Exit 2, known as “Yeji Gate,” Hanyang University’s main building comes into view.
On this day, I personally visited Hanyang University’s International Education Institute for a class check, had a meeting with faculty, and took the time to check the lecture halls.
“After Lecture Hall Checks, Exploring Hanyang University Campus”
Hanyang University is not an enormous campus, but the weather was hot that day, making it challenging to walk around. Nevertheless, exploring various buildings such as the outdoor performance stage and sports field on Hanyang University’s campus made me feel like a university student again. Of course, to university staff or graduate students, I might have appeared as someone else…
In May 2023, I captured the scenery of Hanyang University with photos.
