Seoul Gwanghwamun Chinese Restaurant ‘Chuihong’

The Gwanghwamun Station area in Seoul is a representative office-dense zone of the city. It’s an area densely populated with various public institutions, overseas organizations, large corporations, and small and medium-sized businesses, starting from the government Seoul City Hall.

Thanks to this, you can always find various places nearby to cater to the demand of office workers.

In the underground levels of the large buildings in the Gwanghwamun area, you can find underground shopping arcades with a concentration of restaurants, cafes, and other amenities. Even in the underground shopping area of the “Sejong-ro Daewoo Plaza Building,” which can be found to the west of Gwanghwamun Square, you can find various restaurants. Therefore, this place also gets crowded with office workers during lunchtime.

Chuihong is also a Chinese restaurant you can find here. It’s a Chinese restaurant located at the heart of the underground shopping area.

True to what you might imagine when thinking of a Chinese restaurant, it exudes the typical interior and atmosphere. It offers menus like Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), and Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). During lunchtime, it’s always packed with office workers, and you might have to wait in line to have your meal.

“Jangban Jjajang – 9,000 won”

On this day, I visited alone and ordered a simple single menu item. I chose “Jangban Jjajang” which is priced at 9,000 won.

While I haven’t tried the regular Jjajangmyeon, it seemed to have a bit more diverse ingredients. In addition to the basic ingredients, I could taste additional ingredients like mushrooms and seafood.

Overall, it’s a restaurant in the Gwanghwamun underground shopping arcade where you can have a decent meal at a reasonable price. Especially during dinner hours, when there are fewer guests, it’s a relatively quiet place, making it a good option for dining alone.
