Pohang’s Jukdo Market is a representative traditional market in Pohang. Jukdo, one of the names associated with Pohang, means “island” where “bamboo” used to grow abundantly. Pohang is a city created by filling the space between islands, and you can find many place names ending in “do,” indicating islands, in its designations.
“Jukdo Market: 24-Hour Crab and Sashimi Street”
Within Pohang’s Jukdo Market, there is a street known for crab and sashimi. Here, you can find various restaurants selling a wide variety of sashimi and crab. When visiting this area, you’ll notice people enticing passersby at the front of each establishment, which can be a bit overwhelming.
Since this was my second visit to Jukdo Market, I wanted to try something different rather than ordering a crab and sashimi set. After considering which restaurant to visit, I decided to go to “Jukdo Hoe Daege Town,” located near the entrance of the Crab and Sashimi Street.

While Jukdo Hoe Daege Town also offered set menus, I opted for a medium-sized assorted sashimi dish instead. The medium-sized assorted sashimi costs 60,000 won.
A wide array of dishes were laid out on the table, similar to a set menu. Thanks to this, I was able to enjoy various dishes by the seaside. After finishing the sashimi, I had the option to order a spicy seafood stew, which was provided as a complimentary service.
Considering that two people were able to eat their fill and still have leftover sashimi, it reaffirmed my belief that sashimi is best enjoyed by the seaside.
If you’re visiting Pohang, Jukdo Market is a must-visit place, especially because savoring freshly caught seafood by the seaside is one of the highlights of a trip to Pohang.
