Nara Park Observatory – Nara Prefectural Office Observatory

Opposite Noborioji Observatory in Nara Park and west of Nara Bus Terminal stands the “Nara Prefectural Office.” While primarily an administrative hub for the Nara region, the building hosts an observatory at its top, offering panoramic views of Nara Park and its surroundings.

Given Nara’s abundance of cultural heritage, strict development regulations seem to limit the construction of tall buildings. Despite being just six stories high, the observatory provides a decent view of the area, making it an enjoyable spot, especially considering it’s free to access.

“Nara Prefectural Office Observatory”

Reaching the Nara Prefectural Office Observatory is straightforward. Enter through the main gate of the Nara Prefectural Office, take the elevator to the top floor, and then ascend to the observatory using the stairs from the upper floor. While the elevator doesn’t directly reach the observatory, climbing just one floor of stairs isn’t overly burdensome.

“360-Degree Views at Nara Prefectural Office Observatory”

The Nara Prefectural Office Observatory offers a 360-degree view. You can enjoy vistas in all directions, with particularly captivating scenery towards Nara Park, where the Kofuku-ji Five-story Pagoda is located. Additionally, you can overlook Noborioji Park directly below, potentially witnessing deer frolicking in the park from the observatory.

“Hidden Gem in the Vicinity of Nara Park”

Interestingly, this location is relatively unknown to many. It’s challenging to anticipate an observatory within a six-story prefectural office, and limited information adds to the obscurity. During my visit, the observatory was deserted, allowing me to peacefully appreciate the panoramic views of Nara Park and its surroundings.
