You can find “Disneyland” on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. In the past, it was always crowded with many people as Hong Kong was the only location in Southeast Asia where you could find Disneyland. However, with the opening of Disneyland in Shanghai, China, more people started visiting the larger and more recent Shanghai Disneyland, leading to a quieter atmosphere in Hong Kong’s Disneyland compared to the past.
“Amusement Park on Lantau Island, Hong Kong: Disneyland”
Hong Kong Disneyland is situated in an area somewhat distant from the downtown of Hong Kong. It can be found on Lantau Island, where the Hong Kong Airport is located, towards the outskirts of Lantau Island.
Thanks to this, getting from Hong Kong Airport to Disneyland is quite convenient. In the most convenient case, you can use a “taxi” for transportation. However, it’s worth noting that Hong Kong taxis operate based on different colors depending on the region, and for Lantau Island, you’ll need to use a “blue” or “green” taxi. Among these, the “blue taxi” that operates only within Lantau Island is more advantageous for getting to Disneyland.

“Smaller Scale Hong Kong Disneyland”
Hong Kong Disneyland is known to be smaller in scale compared to other Disneylands. However, once you visit, it’s not necessarily easy to experience all the attractions due to the variety of attractions available.
Of course, if there are fewer visitors, it may not take long to ride the attractions. However, if there are other visitors and you have to wait in line, unless you visit early in the morning, it may be difficult to experience all the attractions.
Especially, some attractions incorporate storytelling, and in such cases, it may take more than 30 minutes from waiting to boarding.
“Key Attraction in Hong Kong Disneyland: Iron Man”
In various Disneylands around the world, there are attractions that you must visit in each region. In Hong Kong Disneyland, “Iron Man” is considered a priority.
There are two types of Iron Man attractions: “Iron Man Experience” and “Iron Man Showcase.” Iron Man Experience is an attraction where you board a “4D” vehicle, and Iron Man Showcase is an experience where you can meet Iron Man in person.
Personally, due to time constraints, I only participated in the Iron Man Experience. It involved riding a vehicle operated by Jarvis to help Iron Man save Hong Kong from a crisis.
“Restaurants in Disneyland”
Inside Disneyland, you can find various restaurants. Because I was hungry, I visited the restaurant that was most visible in front of me and ordered food right away. Later, I found out that there are about six restaurants in Disneyland, and I visited the one closest to the Iron Man attraction.
I ordered chicken wings, french fries, and a cola set, which cost about “HKD 100,” equivalent to about 15,000 KRW.
“Must-See Attractions in Hong Kong Disneyland”
Among the various attractions in Hong Kong Disneyland, there are performances and attractions that you must not miss. Here is the list:
- Iron Man Experience
- Hyperspace Mountain
- Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars
- Mystic Manor
- RC Racer
- Toy Soldier Parachute Drop
- Jungle River Cruise
- Philor Magic
- Festival of Lion King
- Parade
Among these, there were a few that I personally did not experience due to lack of time. I didn’t have time to try the attractions in the Toy Story area, and I didn’t have time to enter Philor Magic.
Besides that, I was able to enjoy all the other attractions, but unfortunately, the parade, which can be considered the climax of Disneyland, was canceled due to a few drops of rain, leaving me disappointed.
“Festival of Lion King”
By chance, while following the crowd, I was able to watch the performance known as a must-see in Hong Kong Disneyland, the “Festival of Lion King.” I could see why this performance is a must-see.
Overall, it was large in scale and high in completion, so I could enjoy the performance just by watching the performance. However, the lines were delivered in English with a Chinese accent, so there were some parts that were hard to understand. However, the overall flow of the story was not difficult to grasp, so there wasn’t a big problem.
During the performance, photography is strictly prohibited. However, some people in front did not pay attention and took pictures. Fortunately, after the performance, they gave some time for taking pictures. At this time, I was able to take pictures of the performance.
“Disneyland Tickets”
Tickets for Disneyland are most expensive when purchased on-site. Therefore, it’s more cost-effective to buy them in advance. There are one-day and two-day tickets, and the price difference is not significant.
The price difference is only about 10,000 KRW, so even though it was my first visit, I bought a one-day ticket without much thought. However, if I happen to visit again, I think it would be better to buy a two-day ticket.
Visitors can also purchase tickets at Disneyland Hotel, but it is cheaper to purchase them on the official website, and using relay sites in Korea is even cheaper than the official website.
The ticket purchase costs provided by Disneyland’s official website are as follows:
- Disneyland 1-Day Ticket: HKD 639
- Disneyland 2-Day Ticket: HKD 904
- Disneyland 2-Day Ticket (Exciting 2-Day Special): HKD 789
