Gwanghwamun Instant Tteokbokki: Today’s Tteok

The Gwanghwamun area in Seoul is known as one of the city’s prominent office districts. During lunchtime, you can observe numerous office workers coming out to grab a meal.

In the underground shopping area of buildings around Gwanghwamun Square, you can find various restaurants. Among them, in the basement of DoRyeom Building located to the west of Gwanghwamun Square, you can find a concentration of various restaurants.

You can find an instant tteokbokki restaurant in the DoRyeom Building underground shopping area. It’s called “Today’s Tteok.” It used to be vacant, but it has become very popular since its opening, and it’s always crowded during lunchtime.

If you don’t arrive early, you may have to wait, and you’ll need to write down your order at the entrance.

During this visit, we ordered the instant tteokbokki. For 6,500 KRW per serving, it includes the basic ingredients of tteokbokki. We also added mozzarella snowflake cheese to enhance the flavor.

After finishing the tteokbokki tasting, you can also order fried rice. We, of course, ordered fried rice as well, and there’s a satisfying taste in scraping up the crispy fried rice. Thanks to that, we were able to have a hearty meal.

It’s a great place for office workers to have a meal in the Gwanghwamun underground shopping area. However, since it tends to get crowded during lunch hours, it might be a good idea to visit outside the peak lunch hours from 12 PM to 1 PM.

Especially, dining alone is also possible. You can visit after 1 PM and enjoy instant tteokbokki on your own.
