Exploring SK Telecom’s T-Factory: A Multifaceted Experience in Hongdae

In Seoul’s Hongdae district, you can find a new space operated by SK Telecom called “T-Factory.” T-Factory is a multifaceted space that isn’t easy to describe in just a few words.

It serves as an exhibition and experience space that changes themes seasonally, allowing visitors to experience technologies like AR. It’s also a place where you can receive consultations for purchasing communication devices like smartphones. Additionally, it operates as a special 24-hour unmanned smartphone store.

“Hongdae, SKT’s ICT Multiplex Experience Space”

T-Factory offers a wide range of experiences, living up to its name as an ICT multiplex experience space.

It’s conveniently located near Exit 9 of Hongik University Station on Line 2, and it’s also quite close to Hongdae’s bustling streets. Being situated on a main road, it’s easily noticeable and not hard to find.

The space is primarily composed of permanent exhibitions, crew classes, small-scale concerts called “Duckon,” and the Factory Garden, with the exhibitions changing regularly.

“Exhibition: ‘Meeting My Own A-Dot…'”

The ongoing exhibition during this visit is titled “Meeting My Own A-Dot…” The operating hours and exhibition period are as follows:

  • Operating Hours: 11:00 AM – 9:00 PM (Closed every third Monday of the month)
  • Exhibition Period: Until February 2023

The concept of this exhibition is to meet “A-Dots.” By following the staff’s guidance, you can participate in the exhibition. After scanning your palm on a machine, you’ll receive your own cube capsule. Scanning the cube on the machine allows you to meet your A-Dot. However, just before meeting the A-Dot, it disappears due to a data error.

The mission is to collect three cones to restore the A-Dot. By matching the A-Dot’s voice, choosing interests, and collecting content preferences in three stages, you can complete the mission and rescue the A-Dot.

After completing all three missions on the first floor, you can proceed to the second floor through the Factory Garden, where you can meet the restored A-Dot.

“Commemorative Gifts for Participants in the Event”

Participants in the event receive commemorative items such as their own A-Dot card, keychain, and cookie.

After participating in the event, you can explore various areas of T-Factory. On the second floor, you can find a space showcasing Apple products, including iPhones, in a similar manner to an Apple Store.

Additionally, in the arcade space on the same floor, you can play Xbox games for free.

In another corner, a small exhibition space offers merchandise related to SK Telecom’s League of Legends player Faker.

“Group Visits Possible at T-Factory”

Group visits to T-Factory are also possible. Language assistance in English is provided for foreigners. However, currently, they do not offer services in languages other than English.

For group visits, you can make advance reservations by phone. It is recommended to make a reservation at least one day in advance.

“T-Factory” serves as SK Telecom’s experiential flagship store. The “T” in T-Factory stands for “Technology” and “Tomorrow,” representing a space constantly producing these elements. It’s an intriguing space that offers a diverse and multifaceted experience, making it hard to define in a single word.
