In Suwon’s Gwanggyo area, you can find a large-scale lake park known as Gwanggyo Lake Park. It is approximately 1.7 times the size of Ilsan Lake Park.
Previously, Gwanggyo Lake Park consisted of the Woncheon Reservoir and Sindae Reservoir, which were reservoir facilities supplying agricultural water. However, with the development of Gwanggyo New Town, these two lakes were connected, creating a large-scale lake park.

Gwanggyo Lake Park also features an observatory called “Freiburg Observatory.” The first floor houses a cafe, the second floor has an exhibition hall, and the upper floors are equipped with an observatory for visitors to enjoy the view of Gwanggyo Lake Park.
“The Freiburg Observatory”
The Freiburg Observatory is a building that incorporates the iconic observatory of the environmentally-friendly city of Freiburg, Germany. It was named in commemoration of the sister city agreement between the two cities, expressing Suwon City’s commitment to being an environmentally-friendly city.
An elevator is installed in the observatory, allowing visitors to comfortably ascend and enjoy the view of Gwanggyo Lake Park. While it may not be as high as an apartment building, it still provides a vantage point from which you can overlook the park’s scenery.
Whether you visit during the day to take in the view or at night to enjoy the city lights, the Freiburg Observatory offers a great place to admire Gwanggyo Lake Park.
If you have visited Suwon’s Gwanggyo Lake Park, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
