Sungkyunkwan University’s Seoul campus main gate area is dotted with various cafes. It was easy to find cafes offering affordable prices, given the proximity to the university.
After a long time, I visited the main gate of my alma mater, Sungkyunkwan University. The atmosphere had changed significantly from what it used to be. Many of the familiar restaurants, cafes, and shops had disappeared, replaced by new establishments. Furthermore, small buildings that used to be present near the main gate had vanished altogether, and even the shape of the gate itself had been altered.
Despite these changes, I was able to find a cafe that still stood in its original place – the dessert cafe known as “Della”. It was heartwarming to see it guarding the entrance of the school, preserving its old charm.

Della is a small cafe located in front of the main gate of Sungkyunkwan University. While it’s not particularly spacious, it’s just the right size, not too big nor too cramped.
In this cafe, you can find typical cafe menu items like Americano and Caffe Latte. Additionally, they offer unique menu options that you might not find in larger cafes.
Furthermore, being a dessert cafe, you can also find a variety of pastries. It’s worth noting that the owner has over 20 years of experience in operating pastry shops in various locations, and they utilized that expertise in establishing “Della” cafe.
“A Great Place for Studying with a Laptop”
Della cafe is a popular spot for students to come and study, given its proximity to the university. To cater to these students, power outlets have been deliberately placed at each seat so that they can use their laptops.
You can also find seating on the second floor. It has a cozy attic-like feel with lower ceilings. It gives off a vibe akin to a secret hideaway, and not just the second floor, but the entire cafe exudes a comfortable and cozy atmosphere.
While it may not be a place you intentionally seek out, for students of Sungkyunkwan University’s Seoul campus, it’s a spot that holds memories for many.
