Costco is a large discount warehouse store originally from the United States, and it can also be found in South Korea. What sets it apart from other supermarkets is its warehouse-style operation, allowing customers to purchase products in bulk, and it operates on a membership basis.

Costco operates 796 stores worldwide, and in South Korea, there are 16 locations.

Most Costco stores are located in areas that are difficult to visit without a vehicle, but Costco Songdo is uniquely situated within a reasonable distance from the subway station. However, since Costco is a warehouse-type discount store, many customers tend to visit by car, so its proximity to the subway station may not hold significant importance.

Costco is known for its food offerings, such as pizza, baked goods, and hot dogs. These items are served in American-sized portions but are priced quite affordably. This reputation has made it a popular spot for cost-effective meals.

During my recent visit to Costco, I ordered a hot dog combo, which still costs 2,000 KRW, providing a hot dog and a beverage. Despite the inflation over the years, Costco still offers affordable snacks and meals.

During my visit, indoor dining was prohibited due to the COVID-19 situation, which was a bit disappointing. However, if utilized well, Costco remains a great place to enjoy an inexpensive meal.

Now that the COVID-19 situation has become more flexible and public health measures have relaxed a bit, I can’t help but think that we might return to the days of shopping at Costco and enjoying a meal in-store.
