The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) is a national art museum established under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism with the responsibility of collecting, preserving, exhibiting, researching, and promoting international exchange and art activities related to modern art at a national level.
Currently, the main branch is located in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, and there are branches in Seoul on Samcheong-ro (Seoul Branch) and within Deoksugung Palace (Deoksugung Branch). In addition, the National Art Conservation Center was completed in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do in 2018 and opened to the public.
“Focusing Mainly on Modern Art”
As it is the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, it primarily focuses on modern art rather than artworks from the past. Notably, works by Nam June Paik, such as “Dada Is Good for You,” are exhibited in the Gwacheon branch. They host numerous art exhibitions and offer art-related lecture programs.
“The Art Bookstore at MMCA Seoul Branch”
At the MMCA Seoul Branch, you can find an art bookstore. This space offers a variety of publications from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, including exhibition catalogues, as well as a diverse collection of domestic and international art books. It is conveniently located right next to the main entrance on the first floor.
Unlike regular bookstores or general bookshops, an art bookstore specifically curates books related to art, providing an excellent space for those interested in the arts.
This bookstore focuses on books centered around the theme of art, distinguishing itself from stores that sell more mainstream publications.
While browsing through related publications, you may find that it offers an opportunity to learn a bit more about the realm of art.
