McDonald’s in Japan is often referred to as “Makku” or “Makudo.” The Japanese pronunciation of McDonald’s is “Makudonarudo,” shortened to “Makku” or “Makudo.” In the Tokyo area, it is commonly called “Makku,” while in the Osaka region, it is referred to as “Makudo.”
McDonald’s Outlet in Tokyo Shinjuku
After exploring the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, taking our time, we returned to downtown Tokyo, and it was time for dinner. Since we were in the Shinjuku area, we decided to find a place for dinner, and McDonald’s in Japan caught our attention.
Shinjuku has several McDonald’s locations, and the one we visited was southeast of Shinjuku Station.
Japan McDonald’s Egg-based Burger
At Japan’s McDonald’s, we discovered a hamburger not seen in South Korea, one with egg. It was an affordable option, and since it was a menu item not available in South Korea, we decided to try it. (Now, a similar menu is available in South Korea.) Ordering it as a set cost around 500 yen, equivalent to approximately 5,000 won.
Japan McDonald’s with Partitioned Seating
While not all fast-food restaurants in Japan follow this style, especially in Shinjuku, fast-food places tend to have a seating area divided by partitions, creating a setting reminiscent of a study room. We had experienced a similar atmosphere at a Lotteria in Shinjuku during a previous Tokyo trip, and McDonald’s had a similar vibe.

Sitting in the partitioned areas, reminiscent of study cubicles common in Japan, we could immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of traveling in Japan.
