“Kobe Kitano Ijinkan ‘Uroko House & Uroko Art Museum'”

This was the third place I visited in Kobe Kitano Ijinkan. Honestly, I was contemplating whether to visit this place or not, but after exploring the first two houses, time seemed to have passed quickly. Although time was limited, I decided to quickly explore Uroko House based on the recommendation from the Kitano Ijinkan Information Center, even if it meant missing the last house, Rokko House.

“Uroko House, Located North of Kitano Ijinkan”

Uroko House is the first publicly revealed architecture in Kobe Kitano Ijinkan. Originally situated in the Gokurakuji area, it was moved to its present location in 1905. It has been perfectly preserved in its original form, earning its designation as a nationally registered tangible cultural property.

푸Due to its beautiful view overlooking the sea and a charming grass garden, Uroko House is popular as a dating spot. Adjacent to the mansion, an art gallery showcases works by modern artists such as Matisse and Kees van Dongen.

“The Former Upscale Rental Home of Foreigners in the Past – Uroko House”

Uroko House served as an upscale rental home for foreigners in the past. It earned the name “Uroko House” because the natural stone slate decorating the exterior resembled fish scales. Throughout the property, visitors can enjoy an array of decorated antique furniture, everyday items, and Western fine china collections, including Mysore porcelain.

“Paid Admission for Uroko House”

Similar to other houses in Kitano Ijinkan, Uroko House requires paid admission. The entrance fee is relatively higher compared to other places, requiring 1,050 yen even if you only visit this one location. This might be due to the fact that, along with Uroko House, you can also enjoy the art museum.

“A Space Emanating a Traditional and Luxurious Atmosphere”

Upon entering Uroko House, you immediately sense a luxurious and traditional atmosphere. The yard is covered with grass, and in the center, there is a wild boar statue. It is said that rubbing the boar’s nose brings good luck, and you can see the boar’s nose turning golden from frequent touches.

Exploring the main building, which spans two floors, provided a delightful experience due to the richly luxurious atmosphere.

“Great Views from the Elevated Location of Uroko House”

Notably, Uroko House is situated in a high area of Kitano Ijinkan, offering excellent views from elevated positions. This is especially evident when ascending to the top floor of the art museum located on the east side, providing an even more spectacular atmosphere.

“A Gift Shop is Available”

Uroko House also operates a gift shop. On the first floor of the main building, a small gift shop offers various souvenirs. Once again, as my time in the Kansai region was coming to an end, I purchased several souvenirs from this location as well.

While I would have liked to spend more leisurely time and explore further, the time to return to Kansai Airport was approaching rapidly. Thus, I had to hurry and move on.
