The Gwanghwamun area in Seoul is a representative office-dense area of the city. It’s home to government buildings like the Seoul Metropolitan Government, headquarters of various newspapers, and the offices of major corporations. During lunchtime, you can see numerous office workers coming out to grab a meal.
This area is densely packed with restaurants, making it a fun place to discover hidden gems.
I visited a restaurant located to the east of Gwanghwamun Square, near “Jongno-gu Office,” called “Heavy Steak.” It specializes in steaks.
“Heavy Steak Jongno-gu Office Branch”
Heavy Steak Jongno-gu Office Branch is situated to the east of Gwanghwamun Square. It’s conveniently located near Exit 2 of Gwanghwamun Station. Once you come out of Exit 2, make a right turn at the U.S. Embassy and go straight through the rotary to find it on the second floor.
“Small but Stylish Interior”
The interior of Heavy Steak is clean and neat. Although not spacious, it’s decorated in a tasteful manner. Especially if you sit by the window, you can enjoy a subtle atmosphere while admiring the view outside. It’s a restaurant that aligns well with the sensibilities of the “MZ generation,” the younger generation these days.
“Heavy Steak’s Menu”
Steaks start at 10,900 won for a single portion, with prices varying based on the portion size. This visit, I tried the most basic menu.
When you order a steak, it comes with soup, but not with rice. So, if you need rice, you’ll have to order it separately.

“How to Enjoy the Steak”
The restaurant provides tips on how to enjoy the steak. They recommend the following methods:
- Enjoy the Original Taste with Pink Salt and Black Pepper.
- Pair with Whole Grain Mustard for a Western-style Experience.
- Try it Japanese Style with Fresh Wasabi.
- Pour the Special Sauce when the Pan is Hot for a Korean Twist.
- For the Last Bite, Cut it Small and Mix with Special Sauce, Wasabi, Corn, and Rice for a Clean Finish.
Overall, it’s a place where you can have a satisfactory meal, and if you’re looking to taste reasonably priced steaks, it’s worth a visit. It’s also not a bad spot for a simple lunch or a casual date course.
