In the Gwanghwamun area, you can find a variety of restaurants. Gwanghwamun is known as one of Seoul’s prominent office-dense areas, and you can see a plethora of restaurants in the underground shopping areas of major buildings.
Especially in the underground area of Doryeom Building, you’ll find a diverse array of restaurants. On days when you’re unsure of what to eat, simply visiting and choosing a restaurant that catches your eye can be a great way to go.
“Gwanghwamun Doryeom Building Underground Shopping Area: Jeju Sea”
Jeju Sea is another restaurant you can find in the underground shopping area of Doryeom Building. True to its name, it offers a variety of grilled fish and stews. At Jeju Sea, they bake sea bream, mackerel, and Spanish mackerel, all caught in Jeju Island, in the oven. Alternatively, you can also order stews, such as sea cucumber stew or pollack stew.
Here are some of the menu items available at Jeju Sea:
- Grilled Sea Bream
- Grilled Mackerel
- Grilled Rockfish
- Grilled Spanish Mackerel
- Simmered Blackfish
- Simmered Mackerel
- Seafood Stew
- Mixed Stew
- Whelk Bibimbap
- Squid Salad
- Boiled Squid
- Grilled Three Seafood (Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Blackfish)
- Mixed Soup Stew
On this particular visit, we ordered the “Seafood Stew.” While I also wanted to order grilled dishes like grilled sea bream or grilled Spanish mackerel, it was a day when I craved a warm stew due to the cold weather.
Although I was somewhat disappointed that there were no grilled fish options, after tasting the warm yet refreshing seafood stew, I felt that I had enjoyed a hearty meal.
“A Small-Scale Establishment”
Jeju Sea’s establishment is quite small. There are only about four tables, so it’s not designed to accommodate a large number of guests at once. Therefore, if you have a large group, it may be somewhat challenging to visit.
Nevertheless, it’s a place where you can enjoy dishes you’d find by the seaside right in Gwanghwamun. It’s a great place for a quick lunch.
