“Bumpodo(文房堂)”, The Old Stationery Shop in Jinbocho, Tokyo.
Kanda Jinbocho is well-known for used bookstore streets. Here, you can find several large and small used bookstores. Among them, a place caught up my eyes, we went to get closer to the place.
The name of the building was “Bumpodo”. Jinbocho is also an area with great stationery and general goods stores. It is a shop with 100 years of history and a wide variety of products.

“Bumpodo, a place has a long history.”
Bumpodo was established in 1887 and will be in its 130th year come 2018. At the time of its establishment, it was the first specialty shop in Japan that mainly focused on the sales and development of oil paints.
The building’s current exterior was completed in 1922. When the Great Kanto Earthquake occurred the following year, many of the buildings within the Kanda area were destroyed by fire. However, Bumpodo was fortunately spared and retained its original state due to having been built with iron reinforcing, which had been an unusual method of construction at the time. The remaining outer wall later received the Cityscape Prize and the shop has been covered by several Japanese magazines and television stations.

“Books, Goods, and Cafe”
Here, generally you can find used books and goods. I was not able to read Japanese books at that time, so the goods displayed on the first floor attracted us.
On the first floor, various goods were displayed. And the other floors are used for different purpose.
“A Gallery cafe on the third floor.”
On the third floor, there was a gallery cafe. It looks quite antique, the atmosphere of the cafe was quite unique. When I visited the place, they are not open yet, so I just looked around the place.
