“Abura Soba” Soup-less Oil Noodles in Japan
When you think of Japanese ramen, you might think of ramen with noodles in a soup. However, you can find this kind of new ramen in Japan as well. It is ramen without soup or broth. And it is called “Abura Soba”
“Abura Soba, Noodles with Oil”
Abura Soba literally means “Oil Noodles”. I can simply explain this “Ramen that is mixed with Oil”.
For Abura Soba, in stead of soup, “Oil” is taking over Soup’s position. However, not much oil, you can find a bit of oil on the bottom of the noodles.
“Abura Soba in Shinjuku, Tokyo”
You can find many Abura Soba restaurants in Tokyo. But, I visited a restaurant in Shinjuku, because when I decided to taste Abura Soba, I was there.
“Abura Soba with two different Sauces”
You can choose one of the two sauces to mix with your noodles when you order Abura Soba. One is a sauce based on soy sauce, the other one is Spicy seasoning based sauce. I went for the spicy one.
The interesting fact of the food is generally, all the sauces are over the top of the food, however, the sauce for this food was hidden underneath.
So, at first you cannot find the sauce, but when you check inside of the noodles, you can find it.
It was my first time to taste “Abura Soba”, but it was quite interesting and tasty. If you want to taste a new type of ramen, I can recommend this.
